New Video Installation in process: WAVE :
The collaborative multi-channel video installation"Wave" combines the work of
Washington visual artists, David Carlson and Betsy Stewart with the Egyptian
composer Ashraf Fouad. The subject matter of the installation is water as
metaphor for the psychic terrain. "Wave" explores the liquid ground between
perception and the subliminal, illuminating the powerful pull that water has on
our minds. All video images are projected simultaneously with an audio
composition playing in each room.
Images in the new incarnation "Wave" were created out of the prior collaborative
digital video "Watering", a three part linear narrative created in 2008. Selected
images from "Watering" have now become thought/memory sequences between
two Watchers, who represent the conscious and subconscious states of mind. In
addition, these clips serve to break apart the linear time into a more complex
video installation.
Experienced by direct observation, the total installation continues to change as
the viewer moves throughout the space. Through this interaction between the
audience and the installation, the viewers are witnessing the Watchers--
unspoken thoughts and dreams, existentially cutting the distance between the
two.
